In 2017, another adventure took us to Nepal and into the Himalayas.
Our small group — Pat, my sister Sakkar, our friends Vandana and Carol, and me — set out to trek to Everest Base Camp.
The journey began with a flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, perched high in the mountains at approximately 9,500 feet. From there, we began walking — gradually climbing through villages and valleys toward Everest Base Camp at approximately 17,598 feet.
The trek itself was planned for eleven days.
There were mountains and monasteries, difficult climbs and thin air, friendships, laughter, and the remarkable people of Nepal.
The Himalayas have a way of silencing conversation. As the clouds drift apart and snow-covered peaks gradually reveal themselves words seem unnecessary. Standing in their presence, one cannot help but marvel at the grandeur of the Divine Architect and feel both humbled and uplifted by the magnificence of creation.
I wrote about the journey as we traveled, beginning before the trek with our time in Kathmandu, Chitwan National Park and Pokhara, and continuing as we made our way toward Everest Base Camp.
