The Camino Francés is the most traveled of the ancient pilgrimage routes leading to Santiago de Compostela in northwestern Spain. Beginning in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port in the French Pyrenees, the route crosses mountains, vineyards, the vast Meseta, and the green hills of Galicia before reaching Santiago—a journey of roughly 800 kilometers (500 miles).
In 2014, I walked the Camino Francés with my wife Pat, our daughter Sitara, my sister Sakkar, and our friend Vandana. What began as a long walk across Spain gradually became something much more—a journey of simplicity, friendship, presence, and discovery
